• Clear Lounge, a new attraction Puerta Maya in Cozumel, is being billed as the world’s first underwater oxygen bar. You put on a SeaTREK helmet, get in a 13,000-gallon freestanding aquarium, and breathe “invigorating oxygen” mixed with a scent of your choice. While in the tank, you can also play games including Jenga and, of course, pose for photos.

 

• Carnival Corp., together with several of its brands, pledged $200,000 to relief efforts in Nepal in the wake of April’s devastating earthquake. “Nepal is home to a great number of employees in our industry, so we were not only incredibly saddened by the destruction of the earthquake, but we also felt a responsibility to provide any support that we could,” said president and CEO Arnold Donald.

 

• Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who served under George W. Bush and Barack Obama, will be aboard Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2, on the August 11 trans-Atlantic crossing from Southampton to New York. He’ll share his insights with guests during two Q&A sessions.

 

• Royal Caribbean International announced an agreement with Meyer Werft in Germany to build a fourth Quantum-class ship, a sister ship to Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, and the under-construction Ovation of the Seas. The new 4,180-passenger ship is to be delivered in 2019. Quantum is heading to China, Anthem is in Europe this summer and arrives in Bayonne, New Jersey, this fall, and Ovation is going to China when it arrives next year. Royal officials did not say where the new ship will cruise, but they did say travelers and travel agents have had a good response to this class.
