SOLD! Lindblad Expeditions

Cruise News – Mar. 13, 2015

Expect growth from Lindblad Expeditions, now that the soft-adventure line is being acquired by Capitol Acquisition Corp. II. The deal is valued at $439 million.

Venture capitalist Mark Ein, who heads Capitol, has invested in a wide range of companies that have gone public or merged into larger companies, including XM Satellite Radio and Nextel.

With Lindblad, the combined company intends to be listed on the NASDAQ under the name Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc., following completion of the merger.

The combined company will continue to be led by Lindblad’s president and founder Sven-Olof Lindblad and the current Lindblad management team, officials said.

Lindblad has been in business nearly 40 years and has a partnership deal with the National Geographic Society. That made it particularly attractive to investors.

“Expedition travel is among the fastest growing segments in the travel industry,” said Ein. “With its well-established brand, long-term National Geographic partnership, deep management experience and strong consumer franchise in this sector, Lindblad is exactly the kind of investment opportunity that we were looking for.”
