Porthole Cruise News Briefs – Jun. 10, 2016

* Celebrity Cruises has announced the names (and photos, above) of their new Galapagos Islands ships: Celebrity Xperience and the twin-hulled Celebrity Xploration.

* Norwegian Cruise Line has announced select Fall/Winter 2017/2018 itineraries, including the news that Norwegian Jewel will call Australia and New Zealand home for the season, visiting ports across the South Pacific on the way there. Norwegian Pearl will be sailing from New Orleans to the Western Caribbean, Norwegian Dawn will homeport in San Juan as well as offering cruises from Tampa, and Norwegian Breakaway will offer a 14-day Western Caribbean sailing from New York.

* Royal Caribbean International’s Adventure of the Seas is undergoing a $61 million revitalization, adding entertainment options like new Cyclone and Typhoon dual racer waterslides, the popular FlowRider surf simulator, and a children’s water park, as well as dining options like Izumi Japanese Cuisine, Chops Grille, and Boleros Latin Lounge, and more than 100 new staterooms.

* Seabourn’s newest ship, Seabourn Ovation, draws one step closer to launching this week with a steel-cutting ceremony held at Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, Italy. “We are excited to witness this important step and look forward to seeing the ship come together,” said line president Richard Meadows. “With Adam D. Tihany’s extraordinary design vision and the excellent craftsmanship of Fincantieri, Seabourn Ovation will be matched only by its sister ship, Seabourn Encore, as the most beautiful ultra-luxury vessel ever built.”
