MSC Cruises Orders Two More Megaships for up to 6,300 Guests

Cruise News – Feb. 1, 2016

At the coin ceremony for MSC Meraviglia held in Saint-Nazaire, France, MSC Cruises confirmed the existing options to build an additional two ships in the Meraviglia class. However, the two new next-generation ships — known as Meraviglia-Plus — will feature increased tonnage and overall size, totaling 2,444 staterooms and a double occupancy of 4,888 guests. That means the 1,085-foot-long Meraviglia-Plus class ships will boast an additional 200 staterooms and a maximum capacity of nearly 6,300 guests. The two ships are scheduled to debut in October 2019 and December 2020.

Public spaces such as boutiques, restaurants, and social areas have also been enhanced. The interior promenade is now an impressive 362 feet long and the 310 by 20 feet LED sky screen above it will display visual events and vistas around the clock to animate the entire promenade from above and create a unique atmospheric experience.

MSC Meraviglia-Plus ships will also feature a first-of-its-kind classic and contemporary fine art museum, which will enable guests to discover world culture through rich and varied itineraries, as well as on board through masterpieces on display from around the globe in collaboration with the world’s premier cultural centers, classic and modern art museums, and public and private institutions.

The line also announced a partnership with Samsung to deliver state-of-the-art, next-generation technology including the latest displays, mobile solutions, medical equipment, and products for enhanced reality experiences.

MSC Meraviglia will be christened in Le Havre, France, on June 1, 2017, and will spend its inaugural season home porting in Marseille and cruising the Mediterranean.
