Join the Club: Now You Sea It…

The Ports of Apparitions Cruise is sure to draw ghost-hunters and those fascinated with all things (beings?) paranormal

By Clark Norton

When Peter Renn was growing up next to Addington Palace just south of London — reputedly haunted by a late-19th-century Archbishop of Canterbury — he remembers experiencing a number of strange occurrences: “Seeing white lights, objects flying off the sideboard, hearing voices and other noises.”

These unnerving incidents led him to join an English paranormal investigations group while he was still a teenager. But it wasn’t until he moved to Canada and his team was checking out a residence in suburban Vancouver, British Columbia, that he encountered what he calls the “Holy Grail” of paranormal research. He viewed a full apparition.

“We saw a ‘man’ at the other end of a corridor,” Renn says, “but he wasn’t really there. My fellow researcher was so surprised she dropped all her equipment. She couldn’t believe it.” Renn says his team later did a follow-up investigation but couldn’t explain what they’d witnessed. “We heard about a deceased family member, an uncle close to the client, who was a strong presence there. But there wasn’t enough evidence to actually identify him.”

Those are the kinds of eerie stories that will enthrall an assemblage of paranormally minded passengers on the upcoming February 2014 Ports of Apparitions Cruise, a week-long ghost-themed voyage through the western Caribbean aboard Norwegian Jewel. Renn — now president of the Vancouver Paranormal Society, whose investigations have been featured on the Discovery Channel — will be among a small group of Vancouver-area paranormal researchers on board, recounting their experiences and showing off their ghost-detecting equipment and collected evidence.

Among the ports on the itinerary are Cozumel, Costa Maya and Belize….
