New Princess Ship Will Head to China

Cruise News – May 8, 2015

Princess Cruises will send the as-yet-unnamed sister ship to Royal Princess and Regal Princess to China – marking the first Carnival Corp. newbuild destined for the Chinese market.

The 3,600-passenger ship, currently under construction at Fincantieri in Italy, is being custom-designed for China cruises, officials said. The ship will be sailing out of Shanghai beginning in summer 2017.

“Deploying our next new ship in China underscores our strong commitment to growing the China cruise market and providing discerning travelers with amazing vacation experiences at sea,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises.

Says UBS analyst Robin Farley: “The announcement further validates our long-term thesis that this year is the tipping point for China to become a game-changing force for the cruise lines, not only providing a new source of demand, but also helping pricing in more mature markets as tonnage is redeployed out of North America and Europe.”
