Dancing with the Stars — at Sea!

Holland America Line gives its guests their own time to shine.

With a beaming smile spread widely across her face, newly introduced professional dancer Emma Slater enthusiastically thrusts a “10” paddle into the air followed by fellow pros Derek Hough and Sharna Burgess who then reveal their scores to one of 15 dance finalists.

Such was the scene and caliber of talent aboard Holland America Line’s Nieuw Amsterdam during the first-ever Dancing with the Stars: At Sea Champions Cruise this past January. And now that one champion has been crowned, the competition has reopened to determine champion number two.

For 2013, Holland America Line exclusively partnered with the hit ABC series Dancing with the Stars, where professional dancers are paired with celebrities to compete together on television. Throughout the year, the onboard partnership proved to be a massive success — so much so that it has been renewed through at least the end of 2014, giving you plenty of time to get in on the action.

Ballroom dancing has always been a hallmark of Holland America Line activities, and Dancing with the Stars: At Sea rejuvenates the onboard pastime with a fresh set of modern programming. Every 2014 Holland America sailing features Dancing with the Stars–branded dance classes and competitions. From the waltz to the tango, complimentary classes open with a video of pro dancer Kym Johnson describing the dance and outlining the steps. The shipboard dancers then take over and guide the class while keeping an eye out for standouts and potential contenders to invite….
